A rather attractive Corgi Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has come my way lately, this one is in the red ‘plated effect’ finish with the take off wheels feature.
This model was only made by Corgi for 1970 and was also available in a bright green version of this finish which I have had previously and wish I had kept now as it would have made for a nice picture.
The Stingray reappeared in 1972 after a round of cost cutting. Its removable detailed cast wheels and rubber tyres had been swapped for plastic whizzwheels and the fancy paint job made way for a rather dull blue or lurid pink regular paint finish.
Although it was only around again until 1973 it suffered a second bout of cost cutting which saw its red jewel rear lights disappear.
Something I find a little odd is that although all versions are quite rare due to the short production runs, the price guide puts the pink version as the cheapest and by a strictly non scientific search of online images I can only find 2 images of a pink one and there are non for sale online when there are several examples of the other colours available.
Pink is obviously not the new black for collectors !
