One of the great things about working in an auction house is the chance to handle and look at some things you have never come across before.
Over the last few weeks we’ve been handling a large consignment of unusual 1/43 scale diecasts by the Russian manufacturer Agat.
Not a manufacturer I was familiar with. I have seen diecasts made in the USSR before, and to be honest weren’t the best quality.
However, the models by Agat in this particular consignment appeared to be really well made. With lots of models of Ladas – no surprise there – plus the odd Moskvitch, the consignment has and is proving popular with collectors and dealers at the auction.
With limited information available, I’ve managed to learn that Agat went bankrupt in 2007. A pity!
There are still some Agat lots available and will be featured in the British Toy Auctions March Sale on 11th March 2020.
